Power Puzzle Final hailed best ever!
This year’s FLL UK & Ireland Final was heralded a great success, considered by many to be the best yet. More than 350 children, spectators and judges celebrated the hard work and enthusiasm of the 24 teams in a day full of non-stop, enthusiastic energy.
Teams competed in the Robot Performance game to complete as many Missions as possible over 3 rounds, followed by the knock-out stages. In a tense, close final TSM Roboteam 2K7 proved the eventual winners.
Throughout the day, teams also presented their Research Project to a panel of judges. As part of their research, teams had to carry out an energy audit on a building and propose innovative ways in which to reduce energy consumption using alternative energies. The winner in this category was Castlebar Clan.
Teams were also judged on the Technical aspects of their robot, including the engineering and design of the robot, as well as the innovation of the programming. Tech HEds were the winners of this award.
One of the undoubted benefits of getting involved with FLL is the tremendous team spirit it develops within and between teams. Judges observed how team members worked together and interacted with other teams throughout the day and the winner of the Teamwork award was Leg-2-Bot.
At the end of the day, judges evaluated each team’s performance in all 4 categories to see who would be the FLL Champion Award winner – and that honour went to TSM Roboteam 2K7. They, and 3 other teams will now progress to international FLL tournaments in USA and Japan in April/May.
